Breakdown
How the GST calculation works
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a single indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services across India. Depending on whether your price already includes tax, you either add GST to a base price or remove GST from a final price.
Adding GST (exclusive price)
GST Amount = Base × (Rate ÷ 100). Total = Base + GST. Example: ₹1,000 at 18% = ₹180 GST, ₹1,180 total.
Removing GST (inclusive price)
Base = Total ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100). GST = Total − Base. Example: ₹1,180 at 18% = ₹1,000 base, ₹180 GST.
Common GST rates in India
| Rate | Typical goods & services |
|---|---|
| 0% | Fresh produce, milk, books |
| 5% | Packaged food, footwear, transport |
| 12% | Processed food, business-class travel |
| 18% | Most services, electronics, software |
| 28% | Luxury items, automobiles, ACs |
Rates are indicative. Always confirm the current slab for your HSN/SAC code.

GST Calculator FAQs
Multiply the amount by 0.18. For ₹1,000, that is ₹180 GST and a total of ₹1,180. The calculator above also splits it into ₹90 CGST and ₹90 SGST automatically.
Divide the GST-inclusive total by (1 + rate/100). For an 18% inclusive price, divide by 1.18 to get the base amount; the remainder is the GST.
For sales within the same state, total GST is divided equally into CGST and SGST. An 18% rate becomes 9% CGST and 9% SGST. For inter-state sales the same total is charged as IGST.
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, needs no login, and is completely free for unlimited calculations.
To add GST, use GST Amount = (Original Cost × GST%) ÷ 100 and Net Price = Original Cost + GST Amount. To remove GST, use Original Cost = Total ÷ (1 + GST% ÷ 100) and GST Amount = Total − Original Cost. The tool above applies both formulas automatically.
Multiply the amount by 0.18. For example, 18% GST on ₹5,000 is ₹900, split as ₹450 CGST and ₹450 SGST, making the total ₹5,900. Switch the rate button to 18% above to try any amount instantly.
The MRP already includes GST, so choose the Remove GST option. Divide the MRP by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to find the base price, and the difference is the GST already built into the MRP.
Yes. For sales within the same state, this online calculator splits the total GST equally into CGST and SGST in real time, for example 9% CGST and 9% SGST on an 18% rate. For inter-state sales the same total applies as IGST.
